Microsclerotherapy is a non-surgical technique used to remove superficial (thread) veins just below the skin's surface. It is particularly effective for treating veins in the lower limbs but is not suitable for facial veins.
Thread veins, also known as spider veins, are tiny red and purple veins found just under the skin's surface. They can appear anywhere but are most common on the legs and face. Although this condition poses no health risk, it is often an aesthetic concern. Thread veins affect 60% of adults, making it a very common issue, and many people feel self-conscious about it.
At Pure Aesthetics Clinic we offer thread vein treatment which is very safe. The treatment has been carried out for many years. It is a well-established, permanent solution to thread veins.
What does Sclerotherapy treatment involve?
Sclerotherapy is a microinjection treatment designed to treat prominent thread veins. The procedure involves injecting a sterile solution into the thread vein using a very fine needle. The solution irritates the vein lining, causing it to stick together and be absorbed by your body.
This process makes the vein disappear, leaving the patient with smooth skin as if the vein were never there. Multiple veins can be treated in one session, so if a patient has many thread veins they wish to remove, it can be done relatively quickly.
Will Sclerotherapy treatment hurt?
There is a slight sting which is associated with each injection, however the stinging sensation which follows only lasts a few seconds and quickly passes. The majority of patients admit to being surprised at how much less painful the procedure turned out to be compared, to their expectations.
How many sessions of Sclerotherapy will I need?
The number of treatments required of course varies on the individual and how many thread veins are present. Typically, a patient will require 2-3 rounds of treatment. However, in mild cases, only 1-2 treatments are necessary to reach the best result.
Will I have to limit what I can do after the treatment?
Walking is actually highly recommended soon after the procedure. A full aftercare leaflet will be supplied after treatment.
Can I have Sclerotherapy on my arms or my face?
Absolutely not. Although for many people, prominent hand veins are a cause for low self-esteem, they should never be treated with Sclerotherapy. For prominent face veins, we recommend advanced electrolysis.
Am I suitable for Sclerotherapy?
Most people are eligible for sclerotherapy; however, there are a few exceptions. For example, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not suitable for this treatment. Additionally, there are relative contraindications, such as having a fever, uncontrolled diabetes, a history of deep vein thrombosis, and certain skin conditions. All these factors will be discussed during your in-depth consultation.
Will I have bruising after my treatment?
You may experience some mild discomfort following your treatment, but this can be easily managed with painkillers. The area where you received the injections will be red and swollen for the first few days post-treatment. However, this will subside in 2-3 weeks, and you will not have any difficulty walking. We have found that after the first 1-2 days post-treatment, most patients can easily return to their normal activities.
