BOTOX®

'BOTOX®' (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is mainly used for the softening and smoothing of facial expression lines by temporarily blocking the chemical signals that make the muscle contract. Only a minute amount is injected in to the particular muscles.

How does it work?

During the Consultation, we will look at what areas you require treating, complete your health questionnaire and your informed consent. Following this, we then Consult the doctor in Harley Street; Dr Mark Harrison, who will chat about your proposed treatment plan.

After Consultation, at our botox clinic in Rotherham, the procedure takes about 10 minutes. By using a tiny sterile needle – a small amount of product is injected into the desired area. As the needle is so tiny, pain is minimal local anaesthetic is not required, however, an ice pack is available if you wish.

Following the botox treatment, there may be slight redness and swelling at the injection sites, but this will subside shortly after. You will be provided with an aftercare leaflet which is important that you follow. This will minimise the risk of ‘BOTOX’ ‘tracking’ to any surrounding tissue before it has time to be fully absorbed into the desired muscle.

Can anyone have the treatment?

Side effects from botox treatments are minimal. You may experience slight bruising from the injection sites, and maybe a slight headache following treatment. But generally the effects are temporary and mild.

However, Consultation is important, where your suitability for the treatment can be discussed, as some medication can affect the treatment, however, the majority if patients can have the treatment. When will the treatment work?

Some patients can feel an affect almost straight away, though generally it can be from anytime from Day 2 through to Day 14. You will receive a courtesy call around Day 14 to discuss your treatment results. Should you decide to discontinue your treatment, your facial lines will eventually return to their pre-treatment appearance. You can expect the affects of Botulinum Toxin to last between 4 – 6 months, after this time you will notice a gradual fading of the effects. This may be the time you may wish to return for a repeat treatment.

Where is Botulinum Toxin made?

Botulinum Toxin is a natural purified protein and it is manufactured by Allergan, a specialist pharmaceutical company. It has an excellent safety profile, and has US FDA and European approval (including France and Switzerland).
